Olmec Head
Original Appearance: S02E22: Blood Feud
Re-appears: Various Episodes
The Simpsons family acquired the Olmec Head from Mr. Burns as a gift to the family for the donation of Bart's blood. This is probably the most well known recurring item in the show. The head is usually always seen in the basement. I stop at season 10, but I know this head shows up in many episodes, as well as the Tapped Out mobile game.
Re-appearances:
S03E05: Homer Alone
S05E17: Bart Gets an Elephant - It got painted
S06E12: Homer the Great
S07E13: Two Bad Neighbors - First time seen out of the basement.
S07E18: The Day the Violence Died
S08E04: Burns, Baby Burns
S08E08: Hurricane Neddy
S08E15: Homer's Phobia
S10E05: When You Dish Upon a Star

Krusty the Klown Walkie-Talkies
Original Appearance: S03E05: Homer Defined
Re-appears: S07E11: Marge Be Not Proud
S10E19: Mom and Pop Art
Bart gives Milhouse these Official Krusty the Klown Walkie-Talkies for his birthday. As you probably know, Milhouse's mother won't let him play with Bart anymore, but eventually she comes to her senses. Milhouse calls up Bart on the walkie-talkie and they're friends again. Turns out they still may use this as a form of communication since one walkie-talkie can be seen on Milhouse's desk in his bedroom in seasons 7 and 10.

No Chocolate in the Neapolitan Ice Cream
Original Appearance: S03E13: Radio Bart
Re-appears: S05E17: Bart Gets an Elephant
We all know the classic scene of Homer attempting to eat the chocolate from the Neapolitan ice cream. It's one of my first memories of The Simpsons when I was a kid. It was never known as to who ate just the chocolate, possibly more than just one person. But two seasons later, Bart is found eating just the chocolate out of the Neapolitan ice cream. You think they would've bought plain chocolate by then. Maybe Marge likes to mix them all up.

Drinking Bird
Original Appearance: S03E24: Brother, Can You Spare Two Dimes?
Re-appears: S07E07: King-Size Homer
S09E14: Das Bus
Uncie Herb sets up a drinking bird to give an example of a great invention. Homer is amazing, thinking Herb invented it. Herb gets frustrated with Homer and takes the bird away, but Homer agrees to lend Herb $2,000 if Herb gives Homer the Drinking Bird. Homer is able to find it 4 seasons later when he needs somebody to cover for him, so he can slip out of "work" and go catch a movie.
While going through S09E14 I noticed Homer used the drinking bird to decorate the desk of his home office--Junior Vice President style.

Defamation of New Orleans
Original Appearance: S04E02: A Streetcar Named Marge
Re-appears: >S04E03: Homer the Heretic
In S04E02 the opening of "Oh, Streetcar" features a song defaming New Orleans. This was of course a joke. The song was published, out of context, in a New Orleans paper before the episode aired. Naturally, this upset many people of New Orleans and caused a controversy. The producers quickly created the chalkboard gag for next week's episode, "Homer the Heretic" which read "I will not defame New Orleans."

Lyrics:
New Orleans,
Home of pirates, drunks and whores,
New Orleans,
Tacky overpriced souvenir stores.
If you want to go to Hell, you should take a trip
To the Sodom and Gomorra on the Mississip'.
New Orleans,
Stinky, rotten, vomedting, vile
New Orleans,
Putrid, brackish, maggoty, foul.
New Orleans,
Crummy, lousy, rancid and rank
New Orleans.

Hans Moleman's Real Age
Original Appearance: S04E13: Selma's Choice
Re-appears: S04E16: Duffless
This is a cool one I stumbled upon while taking screen grabs. Everybody knows the classic line when Hans states that alcohol has ruined his life and he is only 31 years old. But not a lot of people know that his age was actually confirmed 3 episodes prior to this. When Hans is taking an eye test at the DMV, he fails miserably. Selma then voids his license. If you look closely, you can see his birth date is August 2nd, 1961. Season 4 aired in 1992-1993 which would make Hans 31 years old.

Homer's Giant Foam Hat
Original Appearance: S04E20: Whacking Day
Re-appears: S07E17: Homer the Smithers
Homer's giant foam cowboy hat and air horn is what he would consider his traditional Whacking Day garb. It looks like he busts it out of storage when he goes to the drag races as well.

Apu's Public Nudity
Original Appearance: S07E18: The Day Violence Died
Re-appears: S08E18: Homer vs the 18th Amendment
I stumbled across this thanks to Dr. Zaius. Apparently Apu didn't learn his lesson after Eliza and Lester got him out of jail. One year later, there he is, telling everybody to get naked in public.

Tom Landry's Hat
Original Appearance: S08E02: You Only Move Twice
Re-appears: S09E06: Bart Star.
Homer comes across Tom Landry's hat and decides to buy it. It allowed him to motivate his team and help out Hank Scorpio. It looks like he needed some extra motivation from the hat when he decided to take over coaching for The Wildcats.

Do you know of another recurring item in the first 10 seasons? Please let me know about it, and I'll get it up here.
